I have a problem with my 1984 190e 2.3 16v.
When the car runs idle and the clutch is pressed, all sounds normal, but when I release the clutch and there is no gear selected, I hear a load rolling sound. Even when I drive, the sound is there. At this moment it is very loud. Does anybody know if it is the gearbox, or something else? And if so, what options doe I have? Is there a sequential gearbox? (just a question...?!?) |
Sounds like there is a bearing noise in the transmission. I would have the fluid drained & inspected for excessive metal in the fluid.
The trans uses a very "light " weight fluid. |
I changed teh fluid and on the screw there was about 1 centimeter of metal parts.
It didn't make the noise lower or go away. |
Are you sure the noise is coming from the trans and not the diff? IE does it change in pitch as you shift gears or does it get higher as your speed increases?
