any transmission experts out there? 722.370 queery

Hi
So my box won't change down a gear when i approach a hill. I do this manually.

But I was wondering what the obvious things would be to check.

Is there a kickdown solonoid on this model which is operated by a button under the accelerator, for example?

What about vacuum?

Any advice appreciated

many thanks

This post, and this one: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/418334-722-370-auto-box-has-issues.html, both ask the same question.

The question for folks out here is: How did you manage to attach a transmission with an M119 V8 bolt pattern (722.370) to a 606.xxx engine? The bolt patterns are quite different.

Well, I didn't do the job myself, rather my mechanic. However, looking at the Wiki page for this transmission
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_4G-Tronic_transmission

it seems that the transmission was also used in the w126, which would explain why he only came up against one snag which was the drive shaft, as the previous one was a different length to the manual box in it.

But anyway, would you like to help or just pontificate?

MJ
