tornado fuel saver-are they any good?
Does anybody have a Tornado fuel saver and if so, does it work? I've seen the ads on Tv. The round metal device that you put your car to save gas and increase horsepower.

If you really want to get scientific, the SO CALLED PRINCIPLE for this POS is alleged to be smoothing out induction air flow. Now, on the average automotive engine, w/o other related modifications to the induction system, i.e., ram induction, intake manifold changes, downstream induction cleanup, (porting and polishing), it just ain't happening. Also, the smaller displacement engines just don't consume enough air without boost to really see an improvement, or at least something you could actually be aware of and call an improvement. Besides, if MBZ, and I truly believe this, knew of a better design for the airbox and induction bits, they would probably make use of it.

Even though the term "Snake Oil" implies a liquid form. Snake Oil also comes in solid form. This is a great example of Snake Oil in solid form.

Keep in mind we have some 30,000 automotive engineers here in Motor City - and a good many in Germany - busting their buts trying to get more horsepower and better fuel efficiency. They're recruited from the top schools...many of them are certified motorheads such as your and me. They go through Herculean efforts to squeeze out two more horsepower and tenths of a mile-per-gallon from their product.
I know these engineers sometimes make boneheaded decisions, but I can't believe they would collectively ignore a device that delivers such "wonderful" results. Let common sense convince you that these are only "snake oil" products. ...same goes for Slick 50, Lube Guard, and a host of many other "miracle" products.

OK Guys - get ready for a real hoot!!! I just finished reading the original 1930 service manual on my 1930 Chevy 6 cylinder coupe. Guess what??? THEY HAVE THE SAME TURBINE GIZMO ON THE AIR INTAKE ON THIS CAR!!! The car has an updraft carburetor on it - and the air cleaner is about 4" round with the vanes built into it! Did it work?? Who knows - but I bet I know where these "New Technology" guys got the idea from- searching through old patents that have expired!!
