Question All 722.6 transmission plug and play? Tranny expert.

Mercedes uses 722.6 transmission for a lot of models. Are they plug and play?

I know the torque converter may be different. What else would be different? If the push comes to shove, would it bolt up and drive with different model cars? What is the downside?

722.6 is just the family name of the transmission, there are a ton of variants of it.

very roughly there are two major variants, one weaker one that is used from 4 cyl to V6 models and then a beefier one that is used in V8 and 12s

They have the torque notation in their name.

Combing it down further you will find that the smaller ones have different gear ratios for different applications, diesel, gas, van, car, etc.

choosing a wrong unit results in quite unique error codes which can throw you into a confusion spiral.

similarly the beefier one has different variants too depending if its an AMG car or if its an S class or even something like an E430 etc.

Dont assume its a purchase you do based on the family nomenclature only.
