Tragic reminder
I'm my city just the other day, we had a father 73 and son 42 perish when the car they were working on fell and crushed them. That's about the only details that were released but a big reminder to us all...

OUCH! That would be a bad way to go.

Yikes! This is why I usually spend more time placing the car in position than the actual job. It's a PITA, but more than worth it. I'm sorry this horrible death happened to these two guys.

I always use 2x-3x redundant stands and lifts when i get under my car. The only time I skip that is when I'm lazy on the oil change and drive the front end of the car overhanging the curb and the street and just lay on the street to reach in to loosen the drain plug.
This technique is used when the garage and driveway is being used by the truck and motorcycle undergoing other projects. |
Nightmare story. Leave the wheels on if possible. When you take the wheels off lay them underneath the car, put a piece of 4X4 on top of the wheel and wedge it in, quality stands and a phone in arms length at all time...

I enjoy watching the TV program RoadKill but cringe everytime I see the two hosts wearing flip flops while working an a car and working on the underside of a car without safety stands. .Unfortunately, I am guessing a lot of young people watch this program and get the wrong impressions about working on a car safely.
