87 300e impact strips can be removed?
Can the black impact strips be removed from the front and back bumper assembley's? The reason why Im asking is I had my bumpers painted body color for the monotoned look and the paint on the bumper strips is pealing off. The paint on the bumper assembley is fine. So if I could just take the bumper strips off it would be easier and just drop them off at the body shop.

If they haven't changed up to 93, the answer is yes.
I damaged mine after a car in front of me ran over some construction lumber, and the pieces cracked my front impact strip. The strips (front and back ) can be ordered seperately, and as such, can be removed. Installation is a snap, but de-installing may require removal of the bumpers to gain access to the fasteners on the inside. Since I was replacing mine, I simply grabbed the loose end and ripped it off in a whiplike fashion! Note that if you are removing the front strip, don't forget to disconnect the outside temp sensor first! Make sure the body shop uses some sort of "flex" agent in the paint so that the paint can expand and shrink as the strip will. Otherwise, you will end up where you started...
