Interesting observation regarding variable oil pump on GLK350

The GLK has an oil pump design set up for fuel mileage and can back the oil pump hp usage down during normal operation. I was curious about seeing if I could actually tell a difference between when it was disconnected (fail safe, full oil mode) and when it was hooked up and in operation. I disconnected it last night then had to run up to the local MB dealer this morning about 80 miles away. I typically set the cruise at 80 and ride but noticed that something must be operating at the resonance frequency of the interior mirror. At 80 +/-2 mpg it was vibrating to the point to make it useless and it was easy to feel. Back down to 70 and it settled down to where you could use it again. Got home and hooked it back up then put it back on the interstate again. Vision is back to being clear with no vibration in the mirror.

I thought this was pretty interesting.

Did it throw any errors? I could see things like cam phasers/solenoids getting all messed up if they expect different pressures or a passage is blocked (this essentially happened on an audi I had)

No ck engine light but it does tell you open circuit to that solenoid. I couldn't really tell
if gas mileage was less. I had the ac compressor off the whole time.

Interesting...any idea how it works? Never heard of it.

What did you think about the write up I sent you SB? I'm not sure I'm a fan of manipulating the oil pump.
