2003 Lincoln Town Car - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor

Had a car parts store run an OBD2 scanner on the Lincoln. The ABS warning light comes on when the car is started. The OBD2 report came back: Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Circuit Failure.

It looks like there are two ways to go with this:

or

It looks like the wheel hub assembly comes complete with the wheel speed sensor. which way should I go? all input and advice is appreciated.

If the bearing seems ok as in not noisy and no play, I'd pull the sensor and see if it is clean on the end and whether or not the tone ring inside the sensor mounting hole is clean. If it looks ok, then change just the sensor. Price that sensor elsewhere, it is available for half that price.

If it is rusty it can be difficult to remove the sensor.

OK, I will check the condition of the sensor first and check for wheel play. Thank you for your input.
