1991 560SEL; Acceleration Skid Control brake caliper question.
I just got off the phone with Nugeon; their technical support people were helpful. Seems that not only does NAPA sell their brake calipers but also O'Reilly auto parts and AutoZone. The tech support guy gave me both the O'Reilly and Autozone parts numbers for the brake calipers. However, he did not see in the notes or description whether their Nugeon brake calipers have the necessary lug to attach the Acceleration Skid Control cable to the rear brake calipers.
Here is O'Reilly part numbers for the rear Nugeon brake calipers (you can scroll through the photograph on their web site, I do not see the necessary lug to connect the Acceleration Skid Control Cable. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/brakebest-brake-calipers/brakebest-brake-caliper-remanufactured/bbo1/19916/v/a/6312/automotive-car-1991-mercedes-benz-560sel?q=19-916 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/brakebest-brake-calipers/brakebest-brake-caliper-remanufactured/bbo1/19917/v/a/6312/automotive-car-1991-mercedes-benz-560sel?q=19-917 Right rear: 19-916 Left rear 19-917 Autozone part numbers for the rear Nugeon brake calipers (I do not see the lug to atttach the Acceleration Skid Control cable....I could be blind though.....) https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-caliper/p/duralast-disc-brake-caliper-c9138/351945_0_0?searchText=C9138 https://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-caliper/p/duralast-disc-brake-caliper-c9139/351946_0_0?searchText=C9139 Left Rear C9139 Right rear C9138 He also gave me the part numbers for the front Bendix Nugeon brake calipers which was helpful. However, I am concerned with making sure the rear calipers have the lug for the Accleration Skid Control cable. I need to talk to both autozone and O'reilly and find out if I can order the calipers and have them delivered to the store. I could then take the old calipers in and compare to see if they have the lug to attach the Acceleration Skid Control cable or not. Hopefully, they would refund my money if they don't fit unlike the NAPA store..... |

If you already have the old one off take it into O'Reilly and tell them I want to order one of these. They will ask what it is off of. Tell them year make model and point out the lug to them. Then they will order it to the store. When you go to pick it up again bring in the old one and inspect it before leaving the store. If it does not have the lug tell them, this is not going to fit, and point out why. They will take it back.
As for NAPA, they are really hit or miss because most stores are independently owned. The advantage of NAPA is because of the business model it is cheep enough that most small towns can put one in. The disadvantage is they have to mark the prices up more for the owner to make any money at all. The other disadvantage is because many of these owners are not understanding that it is good to try to win repeat customers they can have bad business practices. Because of this I would not avoid all business with all NAPAs because of bad experience with one NAPA. I would not go back to that one NAPA. I use NAPA only in rural areas where it would cost more to drive to a different part store than to buy at the inflated price. And I only buy parts that I know they will get right. But if you are really concerned about getting the correct one I have had success with some online parts stores having more and better pictures. |

several years ago, I purchased an alternator for my 1984 300D turbo from NAPA. It wasn't the right part so I returned it. They charged a 15% restocking fee......
