1985 380 timing chain?
I found a 380 se 1985 with 145k. Everything works, but timing chain has broken. The guy says that there was no engine damage and just wants to get rid of it. The 3.8 are prone to timing chain problems right? Or is this in the early 80's? Could it be broken with no damage? Seems doubtful to me, but if it was ok, how long would it take to replace that chain? I've never seen one of these engines. The guy is asking 1300 obo. I just came across it in the paper (always skimming through) and thought I'd come here first with it. Thanks in advance.
Jason

The 85 has a double timing chain and is not the model (pre 84)which has single timing chain and is prone to problems. This is not to say that the chain is not broken. Pull off the valve cover and look. If the chain is broken how does he know there is no valve, etc. damage. If the valves collided with the pistons I personally would pass. Big bucks repair bill.
