Air Conditioning on a 16V

I am having a serious problem with my AC. I have an 86 Euro 190E 16V and the air conditioning puts out absolutely NO cold air, i get hit in the face with the hot air outside, and this sucks in the midst of this heat wave. I am thinking that the problem could be the AC relay behind the battery but i don't know how to test that. Any ideas?

You need to connect gauges and see if the charge is low. It never hurts to check fuses before hand.

With a low charge the low pressure switch will not activate the compressor clutch. This prevents compressor damage.

If the system works in economy mode making the blower motor come on, it is probably low on refrigerant. If you have no gauges or experience in refrigeration, you either need to invest in equipment and study, or take it to a pro.

Just to add my $.02 about the 201.034 16vlv's. I had a bad hose in mine that had a refridgerant leak. The manifold a/c hose is a common defect in these cars. The replacement hoses can be extremely expensive to replace.

Potomac Pat -- you're not kidding about the cost of the manifold hose for a 16V; $651.83 from Performance Products.
