1989 560 getting H&R's fitted - what else?
I am about to fit a set of H&R springs and new Bilstein comfort shocks to my 89 560SEL. While the suspension is out I assume that replacing other suspension components might be easier - if so anything worth doing while the car is apart? I an thinking about the rear top and bottom rubber shock bushes, maybe rear subframe bushes? I have had the front lower control arm bushes and the castor rod bushes replaced. Car has 80k miles.

Mattman,
Your gonna have a cool ride. If I remember correctly the shock bushings come with the shocks for the rear. However you probably want to invest in some new bump stops for the front if there worn. With only 80,xxx you may be ok. Also if your installing lowering springs you need sport shocks in order for the shocks to operate correctly. happy motoring :D |
Thanks Brandon. Because it's a 560 it has self levelling rear so I am not replacing the rear shocks hence wanting to look at replacing the bushes. Also there are only two shock styles for the W126 from Bilstein, comfort and HD. The comfort are the OEM shocks and this is what the majority of people seem to recommend. Anyone out there with H&R and HD shocks?
Cheers Matt. |
I have HD shocks on my 420SEL. They are the same ride as the comfort ones, just more heavy duty. Since your getting lowering springs, I would get the heavy duty ones, they will last longer. And despite what people say, they are the same stiffness. Ive had both.
