Transmission problem S320

My S320 started acting up yesterday with the trans.
It act like its going in and out of overdrive, shifts hard
but dosn"t feel like its slipping.I can manually put it into low3
or2 but it will not downshift to any pssing gear. What do you think?Am I in big trouble or could this be some type of electronic
control problem? Thanks in advance with any thoughts

What year? early 96's had the 722.5 and late 96's up had the 722.6. he .6 is easy to identify, it has a mode switch on the shifter, W and S.

Make sure its full of fluid. No vacum leaks and if yours has the switch in the D zone of the shifter, clean it with some contact cleaner and move the shifter side to side. Your car should have the 722.5 which can cause some diagnostic headaches but, is generally a solid unit.

Hey joe p, The dredded call just came, the good news is they don't feel like its anything major. They told me there are no vacume leaks the tranny is full, they must now start by taking the console apart to get at the shifter. I told them that I'v been in contact with you and boy do I feel better.I'll let you know what they come up with. Thank you !!! Stan
