1988 300SE - How much will these repair costs be?
1988 300SE
Well, my car passes the mechanic's OK to buy. He had 2 items that I will have to address. 1) timing cover gasket weeping some oil. Not bad but should be changed. 2) Transmission pan gasket leaking very slightly. Again, not bad but needs to be done along with filter and o-ring for dipstick. So, since the owner would work with me for the repair costs....how much will either of these run. The fellow who inspected the car said figure 300 for each job. Is he right or in the ball park? Please respond ASAP because I'm waiting to pull the trigger on the deal but want to know how much to negotiate by depending on cost of these 2 repairs.

Don't know about the cost of the front cover leak, but the tranny leak is a *free* fix.
A used car ritual should be to change all fluids and filters, regardless of when last done, just to have a good starting point. Have the tranny fluid & filter changed and you get the seeping pan gasket fixed free in the deal .
