removal of seat control knobs

The driver side handgrip on my 81 300SD is (presumably) broken.
On other cars I have owned in the past it never was a problem to remove the panel.
I can't figure out how to remove the seat control knobs. Obviously being electrical switches no great force can be used. So, rather than do more damage I have left it alone. Assuming I get the right info how to remove the knobs will I then find a lot of "other" surprises?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

If I understand you correctly, you want to remove the electric seat control knobs on the passenger door? If this is correct, they simply pull off.

I have done this several times. Usually there isn't problem in that they just pop off. Sometimes the underlying plastic pieces want to stay attached and get broken.

I used to give a little squirt with silicon spray (using the little red tube that comes with spray cans) right up under where they attach. I push them around a little and then try gently pulling or prying them off.

Hope this helps.

The knobs (seat part shaped items) just pull off. The switch is another story. You'll have to remove the inner door panel (after removing the knobs AND the small C-clip at the center post). The switch itself is held to the door by two phillips head screws and the electrical connections will be tight.

How do you put the Knobs back on to stay on the power seat switch? I'm not sure if my post will be answered as it has been a long time since anyone has been here. I guess any retaining clip has been broken or missing since I took it apart a few years ago. Would be nice to see a parts fiche of this assembly 1983 300SD drivers door

The knobs just push back on and stay by friction. If you have removed the switch and then put it back improperly - ie; if the switch sits back too far from the door card, then the door card might push the knobs off.

Otherwise the knobs just push in. A common problem is that the plastic pin/tube/post that the knobs slip over will break. Be careful with that when you push them back on.
