rear tires wear out quick on inside

my 88 300 e eats rear tires,I have had 4 wheel alignment at the dealer.I have tried many brands of tires.the wheels suck up into the wheel wells with a big load in the trunk or the back seat 3 people. but 99% of the time its just me and my tools in the trunk. can the springs be shot?lookingat the car from the rear it looks ok. I see many 300e with the wheels way up in the wheel wells and on an angle (tops pointed in) mine don't do this unless its over loaded . is this a common problem with 124 cars? can any one recomend good springs!is alignment required again when the springs are replaced?

I dont think that you lowered your car, but if you did that is a common problem with mercedes if you lower your car. Your springs could be bad and saggy. How many miles does it have on it? What size wheel and tire are your running? How much do the wheels angle in?

On my 300E the tires wore down to the belt on the inside. First time was alignment. Next time was tire pressure. Because the tires were new, the tires didnt show they only had 10 psi. It's called tread separation.

The red flag for me was when you said that you carried your tools in the trunk. If you carry alot of tools, like more than 150 or 200 pounds, I suggest that you make sure that weight is in there when they do the alignment and make sure a REAL front end guy is doing it.

Many chain tire stores have a fancy machine that can do four wheel alignment, but have front end man that is lucky to accomplish a proper toe adjustment. This calls for a real savvy, pro alignment tech.

Good luck,

I use a guy that uses weights to align the car, he's an old fashoned guy. Man, it drives on rails.
