Paking Brakes dont seem to work well
My W124 parking brakes dont seem to work too well. The car moves when the parking brakes are activated. On the other hand the brakes are working OK. Please suggest what i should do ?
 |
Climb under your car and tighten the center link for the two cables. That should help !

I have a W126, but it should be similar basically.
The parking brake is controlled by wire cable, which is evident running along the left underside of the chassis. Follow it to the back where it is secured, and you will find an adjustment of tension screw. Adjust that, and you should be in better shape. Let me know how it goes. |
Parking Brakes
Thanks Guys,
I will try out the suggestion and will let you know. By the way is the parking brake cable connected to the rear disc brakes ? Bye. |
In about 99.99% of cars, it is...haven't seen otherwise yet...

Benz uses a set of e-brake shoes in the rear rotors on most models. Remove 1 rear lug and look through with a flashlight, turn the wheel and you'll see the adjuster, tighted until you get drag and back off 3 or 4 notches. (wheels off the ground ;-) )

Check your owners manual. For my W124s, there is a procedure outlined to drag the brake under specific conditions. This is intended to remove glazing and renew efficiency.
