1998 C230 A/C Recharge
All,
Looking for someone to walk me through a quick refrigerant recharge on my 98 c230. I literally want to do this over 10-15 min on my lunch hour. I want to make sure I am not going to do any major harm to my system by doing this without an elaborate process or going to the dealer: 1. What type of refrigerant do I use ? 2. Where is the entry port for the refrigerant or refrigerant extension to screw into ? 3. Should the motor be running and should I have the ac running while I am charging the system ? All info appreciated...Thanks. |
First, have you diagnosed the AC problem other than "no coolant?"
These systems are sealed, and don't require periodic refilling. If you are low/out of refrigerant, then you have a leak, and that MUST be fixed for your AC to operate properly. One thing to remember is that even though your compressor has a safety protection to shut it off in the event of low/no coolant, you're rolling the dice on braking something by running a system with a leak. All late model cars use R134a. |
