Difference in Vacuum Supply Pumps?

Been thinking about replacing the vacuum supply pump for the door closer on the 95 S320. Seems to need to be reset (fuse#9) quite often.

Can anybody tell me the difference between the Bosch part , and the Programa part (part numbers below). The Programa part is just about $150 cheaper - is it OK?

This is what I found on FastLane...

O4000-61535 Vacuum Supply Pump Bosch $481.08
O4000-75668 Vacuum Supply Pump Programa $338.29

Thanks

IMHO, if Mercedes doesn't offer a part as a reman part there is a good reason. It usually means that it's not economically feasable to rebuild them correctly. If someone else is rebuilding them, they are trying to make money on them also, but MB, with all the resources at it's disposal, says it's not ecomonical. Corners are being cut in the process, obviously.

Gilly,

I don't agree with you. Programa may be the actual manufacturer of the pump that MB sells thru its dealership. By buying direct you don't have the huge ripoff markup that MB and other OEM add to their parts.

Example: One time I needed a new armature for an IH starter for my tractor. IH dealer cost was $99. Same exact armature from Delco Remy, the manufacturer, sold thru a Delco parts store was about $50. IH bought the part from Delco and doubled the price selling it thru their parts network.

Now someone would say that the $99 armature has to be better than the $50 one. But they were exactly the same part. Repair parts are one of the biggest ripoffs there is. The OEM know they have you by the balls when a part is available only thru them and they like to squeeze.

That's why I avoid buying parts from MB. I only buy from MB what is not available somewhere else. MB says "Keep your MB all MB" but the truth is that most parts in a MB and other cars are bought from subcontractors and some of these subcontractors sell the same parts to the public that it sells to the OEM at much lower prices thru places such as Fastlane.

ProgRama is a high end rebuilder (remanufacturer) of speciality German auto electronic parts (cruise control amp., climate controls, vac. pumps, etc.) That's why you see a core charge for their pump; it's a rebuild (although they are well known for quality work on both "CC" amps.). The Bosch pump is new. Ya pays yer money and ya makes yer cherce.
