oil change W140
Guys I cannot remove the oil filter cover from our 1993 W140 500SEL. There is not enough room. Is this normal? Maybe I have bad engine mounts or something.

Yes, it is normal. You should be able to squeeze it in. I have 47k miles on my 99 s420 and my mounts are fine and it is pretty snug fit.

The mounts would fix it temporarily. In the shop, I insert a large prybar between the inside of the subframe and the front section of exhaust manifold to get it put back in, I can usually get it pulled out without a problem, so maybe your's is a little worse than most. I always leave the clip on the bolt under the cap, it's harder to put back in that way, but I figure the clip is there for a reason, possbly to hold the filter element down against the housing.
Just lay the bar in there as I said and pry the engine over a little bit, it only takes a little to get enough clearance. Gilly |
Thanks guys, I got it out and in thanks to you guys.
