Loose gear shift
I own a '91 300CE with the gear shift lever is rather loose in each gear. There is also a slight vibration noise comming from that area. Do I need bushings? And is it best done by a pro?
Thanks |
It sounds like you do!
If you have a good floor jack you can do it yourself from under the car. The bushings are less than $5. A pro can probably do it in less than 1 hour.
Your choice! |
hey bcgreen
i've got to do the same replacement. i was quoted 60.00 for the job and 45 min. wait time... i've been told by many members that it's something that i can do on my own...just have to spend the time under the car as well as have the right tools...which are: 11" needle nose pliers.... cup of hot (not boiling, but hot) water floor jacks to make sure the car is securely raised patience. |
Yeah, my neighbor owns a repair shop, and he quote me a price of $65. I asked him if it was a shade tree mechanic job and he said no. So I will have to believe him, because I would hate to do the work and find I run into some problem and then end up having to have it towed or spend an extra day to do a 1 hour job. Apparently there are front and back bushings.

hey bcgreen
from what i understand it's not a complex job...and there was someone on here that did take it to a mechanic who didn't know what they were doing and tried to charge more for the work, which he declined and ended up finishign the job himself... hope this helps.. |
Hey mushedroom, haven't you fixed that thing yet!!!
