Engine stops itself after 10 min

Please help . . . . .

when the engine is cold, it starts well and then I can use it for about 10 mins cruising or not.

It seem that when it comes hot it stops itself (with some splutter).

I've checked the solder on the OVP, and I've tried to tap on it and also on the fuel pump relay (but I hear the pumps running) when trying to start the engine.

But the engine would'nt start.
I have to wait till it comes cold before trying a succesful start of the engine.

What can I do ?
I is possible that the injectors are malfuntioning ?

This forum is great an I'm sure someone will help.

What gets your engine hot?

mpagnani 09-25-2002 04:07 AM

temperature

Thank you to interest you to my problem.

The temperature of the engine is not too high.
When the engine reaches its normal working temperature (the one that I always saw during all years that I used this car), the engine stops.
After one night of rest (therefore the engine is cold) the starting makes itself correctly.
I let the motor idle and as soon as the temperature goes up it coughs and stop.
The relay of the pumps fuel has been changed last year by the local MB dealer.

I don't know anymore what to do and I would like to try to find a solution by myself (with the help of the forum) before bringing the car to the local MB dealer and pay a lot for that. Of as much more that it is difficult to me to bring the car at the local dealer because my car only runs for 10 minutes and the MB dealer is too far to be there in one time!

Could be a failing temp sensor, signalling a wrong temp to the engine control system.

Cheers!

Check for fire, if none when it's dead, check for crank posistion signal (on the 103 powered 124 car the sensor is under the oil filter), if you have signal check the coil, I had one a coupleweeks ago that would do this same thing and the coil was shot. A long shot is the EZL (black box on l/h inner fender) however, thats the esiest place to check for crank signal. I'd be willing to bet coil.
