Synthetic ATF change

Hi everyone! How exactly does transmission fluid "burn"?? Here is the scenario: replaced AT filter and fluid with synthetic while on vacation in Montana. Drove home to Phoenix (~1300 miles) and notice distinct burnt transmission fluid smell. Shifts all seem to be okay and not noticing anything detrimental at this point.

I realize synthetics are not the end-all-be-all but am surprised to be experiencing this--although with my limited understanding of automobiles I shouldn't be surprised :)

What is the next course of action?? Drain and replace fluid (sheesh, I thought I was saving money!!) or will I be alright driving around town for a while??

Thanks! Mike

Slippage is HOW automatic transmissions work. Too much slippage causes excessive wear.
The fluid is for hydraulic application & COOLING of the trans as slippage creates HEAT.

Maybe you need a bit more modulator pressure to "stiffen" the shifts.
