w140 blower motor
 

W140- blower motor just stopped while driving today and will not work in any setting. Is this likely the blower regulator or the blower motor? How can I test?

first, check your fuses...

Checked the fuses they are all OK.

remove the large plastic panel under the hood in front of the windseild. remove the a/c filter. disconnect the blower regulator from the blower. hook up a battery to the blower ( pos & neg ) if the blower starts to work then its the regulator.

Ok, I connected a battery to the blower motor and it came to life. Before I purchase the blower regulator - are there any other common problems which would cause the blower motor not to work? I checked DTC codes on the climate control and no faults came up. Otherwise I think the diagnosis points to the blower regulator.

the regulator is the most common problem.

I had similar issues and it turned out to be my ignition switch. You may want to have that checked as well.

Hi jayhawk The regulator you install will differ from the old one. The mounting surface on the new one is larger and requires longer screws, which are included. The reason is to dissipate heat more efficiently from the regulator, thereby increasing it's life. Make sure to coat the contact area of the new regulator with the white grease which should also be included as this also helps to draw heat away. Also, make sure the filter isn't dirty. The incoming fresh air is what cools the motor and regulator and any restriction can shorten the life of both parts. Good luck
