Can't lock Door using inside Lock Button 83 240D

On my 83 240D I can lock/unlock my driver door from the outside with a key, but my inside door lock button is frozen in position.Pushing/pulling on it does nothing.
Again I went to a Junkyard today and took one apart, but this was after I had been thier already in the heat for two hours, so I couldnt concentrate.
Unlike other cars, this thing seems to be one big assembly (Lock, outside latch and locking button, are one unit and its vacuum based.) I didnt have a vacuum pump.
I couldn't figure out what did what even though I had a good look. The vaccuum lines run into the car body. How do I start Troubleshooting this?
