Park and rear wheels still turn free when on hoist
Ok so my 76 450 SEL is up on axle stands. In park I can still spin the rear wheels. Is this somehow weight activated?

If you have both rear wheels in the air and don't engage the parking brake, when you rotate one wheel the other wheel spins in the other direction, the differential is doing its job.

Heh, of course, never thought about that - the propshaft won't be turning, so Park won't have any effect.
|
Phew!!!!!
Good to know...
Thanks guys |
This phenomenon can be learned the hard way if you jack up just one of the rear wheels while parked on a slope.
