has anyone spliced the Bosch "3 wire" o2 sensor? to save money?
 

hello everyone

i'm wondering if anyone has opted to save 70.00+ dollars and bought the cheaper oxygen sensor for 40.00...the cheaper sensor calls for cutting and splicing factory wires...whereas the higher priced 110-120.00 OEM has a "terminated" wire plug set up....

any thoughts?

do you all think it's worth it to cut and splice
or say screw it and spend the hundred and change...
help
any horror stories?
any praise/testimonials?

I did it with a Bosch "universal " sensor. I can post the part number if any wants it. It was a simple job but I can't say anything positive or negative, since the o2 sensor wasn't my problem.

was it an easy install?
is there a DIY on here that shows how to?
i heard that it is underneath the car is that true?

I did a look up for your car (92 300CE) the price is $109.99 for the correct three wire terminated type, they also offer the universal type. I have bought from them and have been impressed with there cost and fast shipping.

funny that you mentioned that website, cause that's the one i was going to buy from...i'm just wondering if there's no difference between spending 109.00 or 39.00 (plus a little work)...

A $70 connector.

I asked the same question. I found out he parts are all the same, they do the same thing the same way, except for the three wire, which I think is a just for a heater.

I did it on my wifes Peugeot and it worked just fine.

The procedure is 07.3 5303 in the CD. I can try to email it to you if you want me to.

so i'm getting the feeling that i should say "fo-gettaboutit" to the "$70.00" connector, and go ahead and splice?

I thought I knew how to save the file in Acrobat but I'm not succeeding. Anybody know how?

You should be able to select the "graphic" you want and paste it using the Graphic Select tool icon. It is usually found in the second row of icons in Adobe Acrobat, under the Email icon in the first row.

It's on the top of the exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter. It will have an aluminum shield snapped onto it and a shielded wire at the top. These unplug from the harness a few inches from the sensor. Find a wrench that fits and unscrew it. Lay both sensors out and cut the plug off the old and with a crimping tool install them on the new sensor. Put some anti seize compound on the threads and install the new sensor and plug it up. Here's where it gets sticky. You may have to erase the fault code if the check engine light came on. For that you'll need more than my help. ;)

maybe i should spend the 70.00 extra and get the easier...plug in pull out set up...
