Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. What could be wrong?? If the fuse was blown, then it would not work all the time, right?

Any clues would be appreciated. Its pretty hot in NYC.

When you say your air condition sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't at the time is the blower stop working too ???? or the blower motor ok but no cold air ???? how you get the air condition back again ? restart engine ? or it will come back it self ? or you have play with the buttons ?
I need more info...please !

When I switch the heating/cooling fan switch is sometimes works, and sometime it doesn't. If I shut the car off and try again, the fan switch sometimes works. If thats the case after stopping and restarting alittle bit later on, the switch works.

Could it be a faulty relay of some sort?? I figure that if the fuse had blown, the system would not work at all. That had happened to my '89 420SEL. It stopped working altogether. I checked the fuses and found a broken porcelin fuse in the box.

I haven't checked the fuse box yet because of the off/on status of the HVAC. Any suggestions would be helpful.

First: if it is just a blower switch problem, just thought I let you know that a bad blower switch is a common problem.
Second: that old of a car could have a bad blower motor also. The blower resistor block is behind the battery and the plastic encapsulation panel that you DO HAVE (to keep water off of all of the relays)!! The plug is at the bottom of the resistor block, do not confuse it with the evaporator sensor connection that is clipped on to the block.
Third: If you do not have a blower problem, there are numerous componets that could cause the compressor to cut out...
