Rear view mirror

I have asked a few of my mechanic friends for some kind of hint on how to remove the base to my rear view mirror. So far, no one has a clue. And I would really like to have a mirror. It has been broken since I got the car. The part with the mirror is off, but the base is still attached to the car. I have 84 190E and just can't figure it out. Any suggestions??

Grab it & YANK down, it is spring loaded to the roof.
