digital #'s on dash

Easy Q....I just cant find the answer in my owners manual....what are the little digital numbers that appear on the dash?
At start up, mine reads #1...then goes to 5 or 6 while driving. Also, the lower right corner seems as if the little blackend squares have formed a triangle....old age? Thanks.

BTW..just swapped my 02 sensor with the Ford Mustang part at Autozone....thing was on so tight, I broke their loaner tool. It eventually came off, I spliced the new one in, and now better gas mileage.

What make/model is it?

Profile says he has an '86 300E - odd, there's no digital numbers except the temperature sensor, dash should look a little like this (ideally with less miles :p )

And I don't think there would be an O2 sensor on one of these, although perhaps USA is different?

later!

I'm thinking ...bad temperature display. ( the area right below the speedometer)

Looking at that dashboard picture reminds me of how much I love the dashboard set-up (even the toplit incandescent looking dash lights) of my '94 W124. The dash itself is angled to avoid sun glare on the windshield just about perfectly too.

#'s on dash

Yes....as in the picture it is the area right below the speedo.....sometimes I get different numbers like +1, 4, 5......what is this supposed to indicate....anyway to reset it?

It indicates the temperature outside. Somewhat informative, unless you are driving in the city. If you drive in the city, it will tell you how hot the air is that your engine is breathing, and make you feel bad for not taking it out for a run on the highway. :D

why don't you check your owners manual??!

dieseldude 10-15-2002 10:54 PM

daddiojiggy, he plainly said in his message that he checked in his owner's manual and didn't see it. Why so upset at such a simple question anyway?

umpalumpa, my mech has said that these LCD displays occasionally go bad with age. What you're probably seeing is its best attempt at telling you the outside temperature as the others here have astutely noted. There should also be (or at least there is in my W124) a '+' or '-' preceeding the number to denote degrees above/below freezing.

I'm not really sure what's involved in fixing this though.

- Ryan
