Green AF in 2000 C230K
 

Hi all,

Just the other day I was looking over my wifes 00 230K and noticed that the anti-freeze is green. Have I missed something in the archives or on all of the A/F discussions here that MB doesn't have a green A/F available?

We bought the car new and the overflow tank has always had a dark look to it, I just never took the time to look in it until just the other day and discovered that it has green A/F.

Is this normal?

That's correct to my knowledge Dale - the factory stuff is pale orange/pink. Hard to believe such a new car would have some green-stuff in it! How long have you had the car? where do you get it serviced?

There have been debates ad-naseum above how damaging the green stuff is or isn't, and I certainly don't claim to know, but from what I understand, the MB-stuff has a lower ph so it's gentler to all components/materials it comes in contact with. I'm comfortable with what the factory is comfortable with!

we bought the car new in feb. 2000. I haven't done too much to it other than changing the engine oil and trans. oil. It has been a wonderful car that both my wife and I love and has been very trouble free, so there hasn't been a need to do a lot of looking under the hood so far.

I was surprised to say the least to see green. I wonder if there are any other 2000 and up owners that have noticed the same thing.

I have noticed that the new cars are coming with a blue antifreeze from the factory. I have spoken with sveral techs and parts people at the local dealer and they confirm this. The blue stuff is not available from parts. The dealer techs just use the older type antifreeze during repairs.

RPM, do you know if this "unknown" A/F needs to be changed every 3 years or is it considered a "lifetime" fill.

Even the most current car models still have the 3 year flush requirement on the anti-freeze.
The blue stuff (not green) has been around for a little over 3 years, as I have had to do a couple 3 year flushes on them. ML models I believe still use the yellow stuff to this day.
