If it were timing chain stretch, it would be a progressive problem, not an all at once deal.

Try these tests that someone recommended to me:

Check for spark at the plugs.
While someone starts the engine, feel the fuel pump for activity.

My pump wasn't running. Found the pump diagnosis section of the manual that showed how to bypass the fuel pump relay to eliminate that possibility and the pump ran fine. Turned out to be a bad solder joint in the fuel pump relay. Didn't cost me a cent to fix.

tensioner

suginami,

That too(tensioner) will be replaced.
- so you are saying that a faulty tensioner would lead to slack thus making the chain slap on to the guiderails....which would cause them to break. Brilliant  thanks
but all 4 at the same time? Maybe one or a couple were already broken and we kept on driving it...then the rest just couldn't take it. And lastly, the rails down below are metal with rubber linings, right? If so, then we should be worried about them breaking anytime soon.

Q,

that's a great idea!! Thanks for the input!
