300d bad motor

I am looking at a 79-80 300d(manuf.date is 3/79). It has a perfect body and interior,no cracks or blemishes. It has 256k miles and the eng.is bad.The guy has torn down part of the motor but I think he is not sure what is wrong. He is asking $800 obo. I will offer $600. Do you guys no of any other things I might could look for if I buy the thing. I may just try to find a used motor instead of trying to fix the one in it. Thanks
