124 rear suspension - support joint install
 

I'm replacing the support joints on the rear suspension of my '87 300D. The shop manual mentions the joint is correctly installed when its in the center of the eye of the wheel carrier chamfers. I am not 100% familiar with the phrase. One side of the wheel carrier has chamfer, the other side does not.

Should the end of the joint casing be flush with the wheel carrier side (side with the chamfer)? This will create a new visible 'ring' between the wheel carrier and the joint because of the chamfer?
