94 E320 new codes of 6 and 17
I had a problem this evening. My wife and her friends were driving home from an afternoon out shopping and the car hestiated and then stalled. This happened a few times in the course of several miles. She called and I asked her to park it and I'll call AAA.
I go o the car and try to limp it home but it eventually stalls completely and won't restart. The diagnostic module flashes 6 and 17 and the 26 that I have been dealing with for awhile now. The 6 and 17 are new. What do you think could be causing these codes? 6 is idle speed control (ISC) and 17 is data transfer....that's all the info. I have so far ![]() Any suggestions? btw, here is some more info clicking noise in cabin, I traced in to a silver module next to the battery, has a clip flip lid with a fuse in the top of the module..OVP? it was raining all day, my wife said she drove through a puddle and problems occurred shortly thereafter wiring harness was replaced, according to history in Mercedes database Last edited by neumann; 11-16-2002 at 11:24 PM. |

I forgot to mention that the car would NOT start after mutilple attempts tp start. Eventually called AAA and had it towed home.
Now the battery is low from having the flashers on for over 2 hours ![]() cranks, but no start is exactly what it was doing Is the OVP a Mercedes only part? Does NAPA carry these? The one is my car has only one fuse on top. I see by searching that this is the "old style" and that the new version has 2 fuses on top, correct? |

The newest OVP is the 67 45. It replaces the 52 45 which is probably responsible for half the posts in this forum!

On your car both the 67 and the 52 only have one fuse. Replace all 52 relays.

Well here is what I did today. I removed the battery, removed out the OVP, opened it up and looked for bad soldered connections. I found a broken joint at a chip labeled 300 I resoldered the connection with a hot iron and a tad bit of new solder. I then took very fine sand paper and cleaned the points that stuck out of the bottom of the OVP. I put it back together, reinstalled it, reinstalled the battery and crossed my fingers.
I fired it up, still had a check engine light, went back to check the diagnostic box to count flashes and there were none. I cleared the check engine light and seems to be well. I took the car for a spirited 30 minute ride to bring it up to temp and no check engine light. I also have a code 26 (upshift delay) that can trip the light but that won't come back for awhile anyway. I hope I found the problem ![]() |
