My independent guy found more wiring issues and now has the compressor working.

The nightmare is over. Thank God for independent Mercedes shops! Yes there were about 700 bucks worth of parts and the labor was extensive but the 300E is back to factory specs on the climate control once again. My MB mechanic told me he'd like to know who hacked up my wiring harness so bad and drilled sheet rock screws into the top of the CCU circuit board so he could kick their A$$.

I have a 95 E320 and am anticipating that I will have to do the wiring harness replacement since the dealer here does not seem very receptive to a goodwill replacement as I don't take the car there for service.

Did you take digital pictures of the job? Could you post a description of the work?

Hi Guys,

I need to ask a question, well maybe two questions.
There are three wires that go to the compressor on my 1990 300E. Which one of them powers up the compressor clutch and what do the other two wires do?

One is 12 volt power and the other two are likely the RPM signal. The AC system checks the RPM of the compressor and compares it to the RPM of the engine and if they are not similar assumes the compressor is slipping and prohibits the compressor clutch from engaging. Climate control wiring diagram on the service CD will show which color is which.

Don't have the CD handy but on a 92 the blue/green is the power, others are white/blue and red/blue.
