Please describe replacement of control arm bushings for front of my '97 E420

Is this something I can do myself if I have a floor jack/ towers? Can someone describe the procedure? Are any special tools needed? I suppose an alignment is required afterwards.

This is an easy job if you have the right tools! I usually do it with the control arms still partially installed. Without the right tools though, you'll probably need to remove the control arms. If I were doing it in my driveway, I'd consider getting a price from the local dealer to change the bushings. At least that way you'd save yourself the labor of removing and re-installing the control arms. The only problem may be concerning the coil springs. A good spring compressor is absolutely necessary. If you have any doubts, let the dealer do it. Good luck

Yep, had mine replaced at 60K under Starmark. Dealer said alignment was required, which was covered as well thankfully.

You are looking at about $2000 for special tools. Best to let dealer or good independent shop do this job.

Thanks. Guess I'll be calling MB Autowerks to get an estimate. Sounds like something I don't want to tackle myself.

Same on our 94 C280

and got a quote of 750 turn key the new bushings, concentric kit for adjustment and alignment. Well reading your post tells me that the MB tech was honest about his diagnosis. But the fluid filled bushing (so it could ride like a LExis threw me off!)

My regular MB tech in Houston also gave same diagnosis and mentioned there is a new design for longevity.

Hope your turns out well, let us know.
