Okay Gurus,
How in the world do I remove the front console ashtray/cig lighter on an 83 300SD? The positive terminal is all corroded and is making poor contact for my cell phone charger. I got a new one from the dealer friday, and 2 days later ( 3+ hours) I still can't figure out how it comes out! Help.... Thanks, Al Wong 85 190E 83 300SD |
Pull the ashtray open remove tray you will see two screws remove two screws then pull ashtray assembly out disconnect wire & light blub.

Thanks for the response.
I did that, and still could not wiggle the ashtray out. I gave it a harder tug, and heard wierd ??cracking?? type sounds, so I stopped pulling. Is there a particular way to lift/turn while pulling? Al Wong 85 190E 83 300SD |
If it's the same as my 83 240D (I suspect it might be, if it's W123 body style) then there's a little metal tab inside the ashtray , near the top. Push the tab down into the ashtray as you pull, and the tray itself will slide out easily.

Maybe the radio is blocking the ashtray. First remove the radio and then the ashtray. If it still doesn't come out then you are in big trouble ;)

There are two screws only. If you have the factory radio, just pull on the ash tray and it will come out. Trust me on this one. If it has been in there a while and has some spooge sticking it together, you will have to persuade it to come out.
