I believe you open the ashtray completely, pull out the tray, remove the two screws and pull out the ashtray frame.

hello
typically there is a tab at the top of the ashtray in the middle. it might even be where you put the cs (cancer stick) down. press it down while using a slight pulling action and the tray should come out. this is generally a dash type. door mounted types usally just pull out. once the tray is out you'll see 2 screws take them out and your ashtray will pull right out as well. good luck!

you'll be able to take out those two screws easily enough but i found that it was impossible to screw them back in again. i wound up pulling the console trim piece up as described in the DIY section. give it a try though, the console trim piece introduces other complications that you may or may not run into.

I myself have never been able to get those two little screws back in without the help of my magnetic screwdriver (holds the screws on the way down unto the hole).

Been there, done that.
If the 2 inner screws don't allow the ash tray and face plate to be removed, the forward edge of the center console is placing pressure on the bottom of the ashtray face plate. You do have to remove the screw at the rear of the center console, but you only have to lift the rear of the console up a few inches to release presure on the ash tray face plate. When you remove the ashtray assembly, try not to disconnect the power leads in the right rear. If you do, a needle nose plyers works to reconnect the plug. The male & female ends match to prevent miswiring. R&R should be less than 1 hour, and you might find a present in there. |
