126 door lock won't lock

On a 88' 300 SEL

The key will not turn to the right (to lock the door)on the drivers side only. However it will unlock the door.

Tumbler seems to be hung or something, but I don't understand why it would turn one way and not the other.
This same key works fine on all other locks and the ignition.

Any thoughts

Bill

Hmmm... mine will turn clockwise, but only turns on the alarm. It doesn't lock the door. I can unlock it from driver, passenger, and trunk, but I can only lock it from passenger and trunk. My fuel filler door never locks.

I figure the fuel filler door is probably the last link in the vacuum chain, so there's probably a leak there, but I have no idea what the driver's door problem is.

The tumblers are bad in the door handle, you can get a new one not coded and have it coded by lock smith or do the real easy thing and ordered coded one from Mercedes and it comes with a new Master key

This would not be right but, is there any reason why I can't swap the tumbler set between the passenger and driver door?
So that the good tumbler would be on the most used door.

That would be alot of work for nothing. You can take out the bad tumblers usually like 2 or 3 are bad. It has like I wanna say 12-15 in there.

Do you already have the door handle off?

Have a look at this thread cam69ss.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=52925

I don't remember all of the things I had to do. Looking back I wish I had taken the time to take pictures so I could post them on here.

BMJR,
Thanks for the help. I figured it out last night. I thought the tumbler would come out without the handle. This is not the case. I had to losen up the front screw to the handle. Then move the handle assembly back and forth to get the hanle out. The tumbler is fine. It is the white plastic peice that broke on me. I will have to shoot some pics. I hope I can get the plastic part by itself from the dealer. The door lock itself is so complex, way over engineered.
Thanks
Dan
