MB tex door panel repair
 

The MB-tex is "peeling" away from the top portion of the panels on one of my doors. Has anyone sucessfully repaired this or am I better of going to the dealer for a replacement?

Yes I have the same problem with you Moab_dan,
I guess it is because of the sun exposure (I live in the tropics)

Don't try to use (because I ruined the MB tex):

1. rubber glue, because it can't stand the pulling of the MBtex, so it will peel back.

2. super glue, because it will hardened the MB tex.

So, up to now, I am still want to know if anybody have successfully do this.

Do a search for "glue". There are several adhesives mentioned in previous posts.

I did a search on "glue" and even if I didn't read all threads coming up - I didn't find a positive answer.

Many people try to glue the trim, but: successfully?

I would love to read a positive long term experience from someone who glued the trim.
In Germany, that does not have the sun of Texas, the door panes peel after some time, not all, but some. I don't know an optically and/or mechanically satisfying method for reparing this.

As far as I know, the only way is replacement.
Convince me that I'm wrong, please ;)

1989 300TE with peeling C-pillar panels on both sides

You ended up with the same conclusion that I did Chris. A new door panel costs about 160 dollars. when I get a chance I am going to visit some upholstery shops and see what they say. Probably cost the same in the long run.

Same experience. I tried both the 3M super adhesive and a generic upholstery glue......no luck. The 3M held for a bit longer, but ultimately peeled away. I guess new dealer pieces are the way to go.

I to have tried all different types of glues to fix this problem. I even went to specialist that install's vinyl tops on cars. They presented me with what they claim to be the strongest glue available that will withstand cold/heat. Of course, it worked better than the others, but the vinyl still peeled away.

I ended up replacing mine.

It is a lost battle! The only way to fix this problem is to put in new door panels.

I have four door panels on the '87 190E 2.3 that have the dreaded MB tex problem.

Pulled them all off, used a heat gun to stretch the vinyl and then reattached with 3M Automotive contact cement (the yellow stuff). One panel had parts along the windowsill come off right away, two are holding and the fourth is going on the car this weekend.

I found that using only one application of the contact cement, not the one and let dry and then apply a second coat wet and attach per the 3M instructions does not work well on this application.

If I go looking for panels, new or used, I will carefully take note on how the vinyl is attached and how much material has been stretched over and on to the inside (door side) before purchasing them.

Frankly this amazes me. Mercedes has known for years that this is a problem.
