92 190E Audio Wiring Question....
I just picked up another MB.... 92 190E 2.6 w201
I want to replace the (alpine i believe) tape head unit with a cd deck. First, how do you remove the deck from the dash? Any tips or tricks? I looked at the electrical troubleshooting manuals, and I feel I have a good grasp of what is going on. It appears the 4 speakers - dash / rear deck, are actually powered by the head unit, I know I have to grab the actual speaker wires at the fader switch in the center console (unless there is an easier location). It seems that the fader actually only switches the positive side of the speaker connection, and that all the grounds are common in the mb system, however, all of the speakers have a separate ground connection, but the color of all the wiring is black. Is there any way to easily identify the ground to each speaker, or, do i have to use the battery pop method testing one positive wire, and each of the negs until I Isolate each speaker. The "active bass" speaker system seems to have some sort of amp connected to the front door speakers. It seems to piggyback off of the two speaker level outputs of the head unit, and go directly to the amplifier, as a "second" set of speaker wires, located behind the radio. Will a modern cd deck be able to handle driving both the front dash speakers, as well as providing an adequate input to this amplifier? I do not want to drop the impedance of the load and hurt the decks internal amplifier. Thanks in advance, George - e-mail george@parts4sale.com |
