Loud Clunk when gear shifted or come to stop
 

Can anyone tell me the problem? I have a 1982 500SE give a loud noise or Clunk when the gear shifted from one to another and especially whenever the car come to stop. If i m not wrong.. the sound come from the middle part or rear part of the car...

Sounds like a center carrier bearing. They are supported by rubber and these often tear and/or wear out.

Could also possibly be broken rear differential mounts. Happened on my car.

Flex disc?
