While on the subject of ashtrays how do you get the ashtray module (the holder for the lift out part) out of a 99 e-300td ?

I see two small rubber filed holes toward the front. Removing the rubber plugs does not seem to expose any screws.

There are 4 clips at the rear that hold it. I have seen people take out the radio to ease in the removal.

I have the DIN tool that you put into slots on the radio but am not sure how to use it
without breaking something. Do you just push
the din tool in till something gives or what?

If its the same as other DIN radios, push the tool in the two holes till it clicks, then pull on the tool to remove the radio ;-) May take some wiggling, particularly with Sony for some reason.

OK…Don’t want to break off a little piece of something and have it rattle

Removal of the ashtay assmbly on a 210 chassis does not require that the Radio be removed. If your remove the radio on a 99 model be very carefull not to kink the fiber optic lines tighter than aprox 3 in radias.
To remove the ashtray first lift the shifter trim with a thin plastic wedge. A credit card will also work. Then pop the shifter wood trim sraight up using a suitable wedge type of tool. Carefully as the wood is easly damaged. Once removed there are two blck headed screws that hold the ashtray in place . Remove these then rotate it out and up. Good Luck and have fun.
