I plan to place my engine, tansmission, alternator, fuel pump, etc back in the car in one single lift. Unfortunately my engine hoist is rated at 1000lb. I realize the block and head, crank, pistons alone are maybe 550 pounds, transmission, 100 pounds, flywheel, 100 pounds, accesories 100--I'll be close to 900 pounds. Can i do this with a 1000 pound hoist. Am i taking a chance

I have seen this done many times. You will be fine I think as long as the legs are out far enough to stop it from tipping.

Sounds like you are close to the limit, what kind of car (engine are you dealing with?
A couple of things to look for: 1. Do the legs and boom of the lift/hoist extend? Best to slide them all of the way out to their marked limit. 2. Most likely the engine hoist would start to tilt forward, e.i. the rear legs of the lift would start to come up off of the ground. A couple of helpers would be called for, plus don't stand under the engine and/or crane (obvious of course, I know you're smarter than that, but my lawyer made me put that in) 3. Wait a couple of days and maybe someone can give the weight once they know the year/model car... ------------------ |
