Door Catch

This is for a 1981 240D, but I would guess that it applies to many different models. My doors were not closing easily, so I replaced the door catch. The female part of the latch that is attached to the body. It was just amazing that now the door closes easily. Anyway, it looks like the only part that wears out is the nylon piece that hits the corresponding latch in the door. My question is instead of replacing the whole catch, can you just replace the nylon piece?

This is the part on the body, the door frame, not inside the door. Once you get the bolts out there is nothing to it. But the bolts and frame and dissimilar metals, like the bolts and the wheels so there is an electrolois process that welds them together. I ended up striping the heads on three of the bolts. You just need a 5mm allen wrench.

On this door jam plate, I too have stripped the allen heads before. I finally would ALWAYS tap the allen securely down into the bolt before trying to turn it. Seems to work well this way.
