co mixture for 190E 2.6

Can anyone give me a quick lesson on adjusting the co mixture on a 190E 2.6 1990. I have a new adjustment tower and the tool to do the adjusting, nut that is it, no fance meter or computer to measure it. I have a strong feeling it is too rich, been told by my two diff mechanics that they thing it seems to be rich but I have not wanted to pay them to do it yet, I wanted to learn to do it my self, I like it. Plus they dont need anymore of my money.

Unless you have your very own exhaust gas analyzer, you are going to have to pay someone to set the CO mixture. It takes the machine to get it set correctly.

thought so

I was guessing that was the case, and not many shops here have the gear to set it either, i swore I would not return to one of them, and the other is the most expensive in town...guess I just have to take it in. Thanks

I was under the impression CO meters were rather inexpensive in the world of pro test equipment. Obsolete, too, for complete emission measurements - there might be good deals out there on used ones. Also, many service stations might have one laying around...

Exhaust gas analyzers are fairly expensive as single test tools go. By what they do they are comparatively more money than the 20K scanner necessary to do real diagnostics.

But even more important is the fact that modern cars without test ports (almost all MBs) can not be adjusted properly with such equipment. BUTTTTTT, as I have posted maybe a thousand times, proper mixture can be adjusted through on-off ratio or EHA current with a $30 multimeter. READ!!! the DIY article I wrote on evaluating engine controls. This can be done for less than thirty dollars and some knowledge.

Thanks, very cool, I will search for the thread ont eh DIY work. If figure I enjoy doing it and if it is already running poorly, what is the harm. If I have to take it in so be it, I would have had to take it in if I dont try it my self anyhow.

Stevebfl is right. I learned how to adjust the mixture to my 300E by reading his posts, as well as the posts of many other people with this interest. I bought a new DMM from Sears for 30.00 with the duty cycle reading capability.
By the way, I found the codes and their meaning in my W124 CD manual. They were buried in there. I believe the 201 are in there as well.
