Just doing the tensioner is easily only a 20 minute job, including a couple 5 minute breaks :D.
My 560 started to rumble, actually more of a growl, as soon as I returned home from Arizona. The growl was intermitent and only lasted a few seconds at a time. Last night the growl came on strong and continued. Listening through a long screw driver I pinpointed the source as the alternator. Ordered a replacement today during work. On the way home the growl was almost continuous and at long stop lights all the idiot lights would come on. I think the alternator has cranked out it's last mV. Car is parked until the new alternator arrives. |
Seems the easy fix on timing chain is to roll in new chain new tensioner, and upper rails. I did a front cover off chain replacement on my 86 Euro 500 SE and found bottom rails thin and worn enough to see through..............
