euro style, blinkers off until activated?
Hey guys, I noticed while I was in europe that the corner lights are completely off when the headlights are on, until they are activated. Is this possible to rig on american mercedes? aka...my W124 :P

European laws don't require the outside markers to be lit, but they do have the city lights. US DOT requires orange corners in the front. Obviously, you could mask the electrical contacts on the dual filament bulbs so that the running lights don't come on, only the blinkers, just remember to undo the masking when you're going in for inspection.

Yeah, all ya gotta do is unplug the third prong on your turn signal holder. But..why would you want to do that? Doesn't hurt anything, and it, supposedly, makes the car safer because it is more visible at night from the side. Just wondering.

It can be done and has been done. Check with Brabus over at bnzsport.com

I recently achieved this very look with my euro lights. I ran pin 4 (dim setting) from the side marker wiring assembly to pin 58 in the 6-pin wiring assembly for the euro headlamp assembly. This now powers my city lights in light switch position 1.
If you don't have euro lights, you could simply disconnect pin 4 in the side marker wiring assembly. However, this would result in NO lighting up front unless the headlights are on. |
I did the same thing, I ran it into the 6 pin to run the city lights, but I also made a "Y" out of that wire. One end running to the 6 pin plug, the other running to my turn signal marker light. You can buy a push type plug from AutoZone that will fit the post perfectly. That way I have the city lights AND the side marker light....don't have to worry about being seen from the side...or the law.
