What part is that next to the battery in a 1996 E320 in an insulated housing. I see yellow hoses connected to it. my front left door wont close or latch. can push lock pin down. when i push central locking button it makes humming noise. my guess it looks like a vacuum/compressor for the locks cuz a yeelow tube goes to the locking mechanism. i checked fuses, and looks good. please help!!!!

looks like the vaccum system for the door locks.

doors wont LATCH CLOSE!

DR./// AMG

thanks for info, did something electrical go out in my door??? i still hear vacuum going when i try to central lock. 3 other locks work. the broken door won't even latch close!!!!!! i cant even drive it. What do you suggest?

Well I'm not pro, but i'd try taking off the door panel and see what's going on in there. did you try to tinker w/ the door latch see if was outta "place" or something? Tried closing opening the door pin?

electrical i think!

I'm sure its something electrical. can it be actuator or switch or something like that? how and where do i test for these possibilites. please anybody HELP!!!! door wont even latch close!!!

You may have accidentally closed the latch on the door with the door open, so it is partway locked.

Look at the door lock (on the door). There is a little lever that snaps down (or up or up and down both, two parts) over the bar on the door frame. If this is flipped over, the door is partially latched and the lock won't work, nor can you close the door, it will simply bounce off the latch bar.

To fix, just pull the door handle and use a screwdriver to flip the latch into the correct position. This may restore things.

Otherwise, I'd suspect a loose or broken lock actuator. You will need to pull the door panel to get to that, and I don't know how your's comes off. Do a search, someone else may have a description.

HOpe this helps!

actuator? is it electrical or mehanical?

the latch just goes back anf forth with no latching or stopping. is the actuator electrical or mechanical. when i push remote button 3 doors lock and this problem door it actually moves a liitle bit downward. so eletonically its working, maybe something jammed it. its trying to move. anyone else wanna share some advice!

Make sure the door is unlocked position. Pull on outside or inside door handle. While pulling on the handle, with your finger, flip the catch so it is the open position (look at one of the other door latches if you are unsure what it's supposed to look like in the open position).

The part in question is for central locking and alarm functions.
The common fault for complaint is the "door closed switch (S17/3)".
This switch is located under the lock striker on the "b" pillar.
It is common that the seat belt hits this switch and breaks it when the door is closed.
Hope this helps, Scott.

Sounds like the latch is possibly broken.

never mind!

door was just jammed up!!!!had to do alittle prying with a screwdriver. used a little WD-40 too.

Get some white lithium spray grease (the stuff in an aerasol can) and lubricate all the latches, they will all need it if one stuck.
